MEET DEAN TRAN

Dean Tran was born in Saigon, Vietnam, and emigrated with his family to the United States at the age of 4.  The son of a military officer who fought with the US Forces, and a successful business family in Vietnam, he knows what it means to leave everything behind and start again. His family sacrificed every possession they had to flee from the communist-controlled country of Vietnam after the war ended to achieve freedom. After fleeing Vietnam and surviving the ocean while others perished, the family spent 2 years in refugee camps while waiting for their green cards to come to the United States.  In 1980, he and his family were sponsored by a Catholic priest in Clinton, a town that he calls his first real home.

In 1986, his family relocated to Fitchburg where he attended the local public schools and graduated from Fitchburg High School.  One of his teachers still tells the story of a young Dean in his school years, who was the smartest, most engaged, and inquisitive student in his teaching career.  Dean went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Brandeis University.

Dean is married to his lovely wife and is the proud and loving dad to four children. All the children have and continue to attend the local Fitchburg Public Schools.  He is a fully engaged dad and enjoys spending time with his family.  He is a volunteer coach of his son’s youth basketball, soccer, baseball, and flag football teams.

Currently, Dean is a senior project manager for an international firm, managing major accounts responsible for the overall production of goods on three continents.  His success in this industry is a direct result of his ability to remain focused and committed to working with others to meet goals, and he has achieved noteworthy financial outcomes resulting in millions of dollars in earned revenue.

In his community, Dean Tran serves as a Corporator for the Central Massachusetts YMCA and formerly sat on the Executive Board for the Boy Scouts of America and the Board of Trustees for Mount Wachusett Community College.

In 2005 Dean started his career in politics in Fitchburg as the first minority elected in the city and the first Vietnamese elected to office in Massachusetts. He served for 12 years as a City Councilor at Large and then as the Council Vice President, building a core constituency based on his responsible and individualized public service.

A 2017 special election for the Worcester and Middlesex State Senate seat was held and City Councilor Tran decided to run for the position.  He prevailed, becoming the first Vietnamese American elected to the Massachusetts State Legislature and the first minority from his district, refugee, and Asian-born elected to the State Senate.  His election was one of the only four legislative seats in the country to flip from blue to red.  In the November 2018 general election, Senator Tran was convincingly re-elected to the Massachusetts State Senate.

At the State House, Senator Tran served as the Assistant Minority Whip and sat on the Joint Committee on Way and Means, Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security, Joint Committee on Transportation, Joint Committee on Health Care Financing, Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs, Joint Committee on Higher Education, Joint Committee on Municipalities and Regional Government, Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight, Joint Committee on Marijuana Policy, and Senate Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs and Post Audit and Oversight.

In addition, he also served on the Legislative Transportation Working Group, Brain Injury Commission, and Gaming Policy Advisory Committee.

Dean Tran’s biography is the epitome of the American experience.  His respect and love for America are the cornerstones of who he is today as he moves forward as a political candidate.   He remains laser-focused on this new challenge and remains undaunted by his underdog status.  His collective experiences are the foundation of his strength, determination, and conscientious desire to serve the people of the US 3rd Congressional District.  His primary goal remains to ensure the preservation of individual freedoms and liberty as set forth in the US Constitution, remembering the profound words—WE THE PEOPLE!

Senator Tran is a strong believer in serving the people and always puts the people and community first.

Without question, Dean Tran is an American patriot, a citizen who believes that he owes the United States for the beneficence that he and his family have received.  He is a hard worker who is committed and dedicated to his City, State, and country.  He has the utmost respect for America, the country that has given him the freedom and liberty to live the American dream, and is respectful and in awe of the symbolism of the American Flag.

MAY GOD BLESS AMERICA!
